Fall Tests for Ropes

UIAA Fall Test

Using 2.5m of rope, a weight of 80kg single rope (or 55kg double rope) is dropped 4.8m to give a nominal fall factor of 2. Single ropes which sustain 5 falls with a maximum force lower than 12kN (or 8kN for double ropes) pass the test.

1. Fixed Point

2. Weight before the fall

3. Free Rope - 2.5m

4. Bypass karabiner

5. Weight after the fall

6. 2.5m plus elongation

Rope Care and Maintenance

Exposure to dirt, dampness and sunlight will rapidly decrease the safety and effectiveness of your rope (dynamic or static). The optimal conditions for rope storage include a chemical/sunlight free environment with 20ºC temperature and relative humidity of 65%. Keep your rope clean by using a rope bag! Inspect your rope after every use and get rid of it when it has been damaged by stone-fall, sharp edges, when you’ve taken a severe fall or when the sheath has been badly worn by abrasion. Please be advised that although we sell the best ropes in the world, they will wear prematurely if care is not taken to avoid sharp edges and surfaces. Better care for your rope means better safety and a better return on your investment.

As with static rope it is vital that your dynamic climbing rope is stored and cared for correctly. Keep it away from chemicals, store it in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight and check it before every use for nicks or serious abrasions. If you take a big fall on your rope, the manufacturers recommend retiring it. Remember that your rope is your life line, your connection between this life and the next. Look after it and it will look after you. All the ropes we sell meet strict UIAA requirements.
