Description

Now certified and available at Southern Cross!

We’re pleased to announce that Southern Cross Equipment is now stocking the AWaH Z3-FIRE powered ascender system into Australia.

If you haven't come across it yet, the Z3-Fire is a compact three-in-one device: a drill-powered ascender, a rescue-compliant descender, and a progress capture pulley, all in one unit weighing in at 2.3 kg.

The Z3-FIRE is built for situations where efficiency and control matter:

• Long vertical ascents
• Repeated climbs during a shift
• Equipment hauling
• Rescue and casualty raising

By using a standard cordless drill, the system provides powered ascent with controlled descent, without the need for internal batteries or complex electronic

Free postage for all AWAH Z3-Fire units; no extra charges, duties, or taxes

  • Powered ascent and controlled manual descent
  • Uses standard high-torque cordless drills (120–160Nm)
  • Designed for rescue, casualty raising, and equipment hauling
  • Ideal for long vertical ascents where fatigue reduction is critical
  • Integrated rope handling and traction system (10–11mm kernmantle rope)
  • Compact form factor compared with traditional powered ascenders (2.3kg)
  • Engineered for high-load operational environments

The Z3-FIRE incorporates a dual self-locking mechanism, designed to automatically engage in the event of drivetrain failure, helping prevent uncontrolled descent

Because the system is drill-powered rather than battery-integrated, it avoids:

  • Battery degradation over time
  • Downtime while waiting for batteries to charge
  • Expensive proprietary power systems

This allows users to use on existing cordless platforms already in use on site.

CERTIFICATIONS

The AWAH Z3-Fire has now successfully passed CE/EN PPE certification testing. The certificates have been issued by TÜV-SüdIt has met the following standards.

EN 12841:2024-B/C • 30-285 kg, Rope EN 1891-A Ø 11.0 mm
ANSI Z359.9:2021 / Type 4 • 30-240 kg, Rope EN 1891-A Ø 11.0 mm
EN 341:2011/2A – 200m • 30-195 kg;
CE0123

What do these certifications mean?
EN 12841 covers rope access ascending and descending, and the Z3 Fire is certified for both. ANSI Z359.9 Type 4 means it has a hands-free auto-stop: if you let go, the device stops the descent on its own rather than relying on you holding a brake. EN 341 is the European standard specifically for rescue descenders, and the Z3 Fire sits at the top of its energy class. Built for the long, heavy lowers rescue work demands, with a working range out to 200 m.
