Extreme Cold Weather

Southern Cross has for many years had a relationship with both the Australian Antarctic Division and the ADF Special Forces mountaineering units. As such, we have become adept at sourcing clothing and footwear for extreme cold weather scenarios. In addition to this, our sister companies Trek & Travel and Mountain Equipment (est. 1972) stock an extensive array of camping and climbing gear from the world’s most respected brands.

Whether your requirement is for a polar layering system, from merino thermals to down jackets and everything in between, or for a -100°C footwear and traction system, we can help. Add in accessories like Gore-Tex Primaloft mittens, anti-fog balaclavas and waterproof socks, and we’ve got you covered.

Below are just some of the brands we are both pleased and proud to import and distribute in Australia:

Baffin Boots

Anyone who’s anyone knows that Baffin is THE name in cold weather work boots. They’re designed in Canada, where they know all about frozen conditions. The chosen boot of the AAD is the Workhorse, a Baffin classic, but their huge range encompasses many different styles. If you need footwear for a polar trip or season, for business, pleasure or expeditioning, look no further.

Kahtoola Traction Systems

The perfect complement to Baffin’s boots are Kahtoola spikes and snow shoes, collectively known as footwear traction systems. Surprisingly, their homeland of Arizona is colder than you’d imagine. We’ve had great success with their Microspikes and Nanospikes, both in the commercial and the recreational spheres.
